The Triune God – Encouragement for you!!

Next Wednesday, March 17^th is St. Patrick’s Day!! Many, whether Irish or not, will celebrate this day. My husband and I feel a special affinity to the Irish people, as the majority of our forbearers came from this country.

I was told when I was growing up, that St. Patrick, was a missionary to the Irish people. He used a 3 leaf Shamrock to explain the Trinity—the 3 in 1 concept of God. The Shamrock has 3 leaves, with one stem. Typically, Irish people will wear the Shamrock on St. Patrick’s Day as it is the National flower of Ireland.

We see the concept of the Trinity in other examples of nature. Water takes three different forms—liquid, steam, and ice. Those forms have different purposes, and they are separate from each other, but still one element.

Also, I am one person, but I am a daughter, a wife, and a mom. I fulfill three different roles yet, I am one person. God also is One, and He is the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.

Scripture tells us: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. John 1: 1-4

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1: 14

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known. John 1:18

Jesus said, ““If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.” Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? John 14:7-9

Jesus goes on to say, ““But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:26

““When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,” John 15:26

“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” John 16:7

Just to be clear—the Triune God is: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. One God, 3 roles, separate, yet One. Just as water takes 3 different forms of ice, steam and liquid, so our God is One God, who takes 3 different forms.

Why does this matter? Because– Jesus is the Savior of the World. Jesus as God in human flesh— paid for all the sins of everyone who ever lived or will live, with His One Death. A mere man could not have done this. One person can exchange their life for another person—Jesus, because He is infinite could exchange His life for us all.

“The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.” Romans 6:23 We have each earned a death penalty for our sins against God and against each other. Jesus paid for that penalty with His death—satisfying the justice and righteousness of God— and demonstrating the love of God for each of us.

Jesus’ death and resurrection made it possible for the Holy Spirit to come and live within each believer. The Holy Spirit as God, guides, empowers and helps us.

So, God the Father sent God the Son to be our Savior, and God the Son made it possible for God the Holy Spirit to come and live within and help each believer.

Each part of the triune God, bringing about God’s plan to save us and bring us home. All of this demonstrates God’s love and commitment to each of us.
